15 years at Sea

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Did you know that roughly, 10 lakh seafarers work worldwide at high seas, day and night, 24x7x365, at varying temperatures starting at -20C to 60C, going through dangerous waterways like Gulf of Aden (Somalia), Nigeria, and various war zones, contributing to 90% of world’s international goods transportation? I still remember the day, I joined my first ship, a Bulk Carrier named MV Saga Andorinha on 14th March 2002, a day full of joy and with mixed feeling of nervousness. In the last 15 years, I have travelled an approximate ocean distance of about 16 lakh Kilometers. At first due to recession in the maritime industry I had to struggle a lot to get my first opening. Soon enough I reached the top rank of my profession, i.e. Chief Engineer in 2011. It may be a demanding job but it is now my identity! As it is with other professions, sailing has its cons too. Toughest is to stay away 3-4 months from home but the long string of holidays makes up for lost time. I would not be able to endure without the blessings of my father, mother, brother & sisters! I also owe it all to my better half –Sujata, who took care of everything behind me, the home, the son, despite her demanding job as an IT professional. The ship is a small world of 22-25 people filled with cargo for company, free of politics and plenty of growth for those with potential. Nobody realizes the importance of ‘people’ and ‘relationships’ like we do. We are the seafarers! And we are proud to be so![/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”23740″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][/vc_column][/vc_row]
